Hi Guys and welcome, I am Philip English from Robophil.com and on this video we are doing an Interview with Hirofumi Tamai from Muscle Corporation and his robot Corono!
We managed to speak to Hirofumi at the IREX 2015 Robot Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan.
Established 1988 May 26 Muscle Corp was established with a dream of an engineer to do a work that is helpful for people. They are most famous for their ‘Yume Robo’ robot, which was used to welcomes guests at the entrance to exhibitions. Corono is there latest robot invention.
Philip: Hi guys! We are at the IREX exhibition 2015. And this is a robot called Chrono. Is that right? Chrono? So it’s just a quick interview with the guys to learn a bit more about Chrono. So first of all, could you introduce yourself to me?
Hirofumi: Our company name is Muscle Corporation. We are doing robot, robotics.
Philip: So you do a lot of motors and stuff and that’s your core business?
Hirofumi: Yes.
Philip: So, Chrono is a companion robot and you have someone elderly at home, it will give a friend to speak to and something to do? So what senses has Chrono got? Vision?
Hirofumi: So this robot has camera and also the mic, so the conversion and recognition, many many functions
Philip: So it got a camera, so it sees the person. It got a microphone, so you can have a communication between the two. I notice that it follows you around as well, so how far does its head turn, all the way around or?
Hirofumi: So plus minus 30 degress
Philip: So how about up and down as well
Hirofumi: 10 degrees
Philip: Okay. How old is the robot?
Hirofumi: 1 year old
Philip: And does it come with 1 size or different sizes?
Hirofumi: It depends on the needs or requests of the user
Philip: That makes sense. So are you looking to make this as a commercial product?
Hirofumi: Soon
Philip: In 6 months or 1 year or?
Hirofumi: 6 months
Philip: So the future of the robot, is it going to have arms as well?
Hirofumi: No. We don’t have a plan to put arms or legs because it will have maintenance as well, it will be hard.
Philip: So if it got arms and legs, as you saying, it will be a lot harder to maintain. So what about the software behind the robot, it will communicate with the elderly person, does it have games and stuff the robot play with the person?
Hirofumi: Yes. It has software to communicate. Software inside, inside their core
Philip: Does it comes with applications someone can download and play different types of games?
Hirofumi: Yes. It will be.
Philip: Okay. I mean that’s a great product, we will be looking forward to see you guys in the future. So thank you very much
