Hi Guys, I’m Philip English from, now on this video we are looking in to the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk!

Global Hawk is a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveillance aircraft. It was initially designed by Ryan Aeronautical (now part of Northrop Grumman), and known as Tier II+ during development.

The RQ-4 provides a broad overview and systematic surveillance using high resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and long-range electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors with long loiter times over target areas. It can survey as much as 40,000 square miles (100,000 km2) of terrain a day.

The Air Force Global Hawk evolved from DARPA technology and was deployed overseas shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Today, the active Global Hawk enterprise is made up of three complimentary systems.

Number one, the Global Hawk Comms Gateway was unveiled in 2006 and operates the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN), a communications system that receives, bridges, and distributes information among all participants in a battle

Number two, the Global Hawk Multi-INT is important for situation awareness and intelligence across huge areas of land and carries the sensor systems EISS (Enhanced Integrated Sensor Suite) and ASIP (Airborne Signals Intelligence Payload).

Three, the Global Hawk Wide Area Surveillance carries the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program (MP-RTIP), which provides game-changing situational awareness and targeting information on both fixed and moving targets.

The Global Hawk is operated by the United States Air Force and U.S. Navy. It is used as a high-altitude platform covering the spectrum of intelligence collection capability to support forces in worldwide military operations. According to the United States Air Force, the superior surveillance capabilities of the aircraft allow more precise weapons targeting and better protection of friendly forces. The original Global Hawk model is now flown on scientific research missions by NASA. NASA uses the Hawk to spy on ocean and the atmosphere. Flying it requires a crew of three (Two pilots and a sensor operator), there is also does not carrier and armament. The system has surpassed 125,000 flight hours and midway through 2014 had 100,000 combat/operational flight hours. There are currently 20 Global Hawk UAV’s in operation. To run you through some of the specifications it is able to fly halfway

around the globe and remain on station for long periods of time. Capable of capturing high-resolution, near-real-time imagery. Height is 470cm (185in), Length is 1450cm (570.9in), Width is 3980cm (1567in) and the weight is 14628kg (32249lbs). It has a speed of 574 km/h (356.6mph) and has a Rolls Royce-North American F137-RR-100 turbofan engine The Computer system is an on-board secure computing and communication system The cost for 1 Global Hawk is $35 million!
